The Beloved lost one
Could the spirit
of the house on 124th and Blue stone Road been so
spiteful that the lost one rose from the water only to be beloved? Beloved whom
seemed to be seven letters engraved on the baby’s headstone that past. Could
this be, is the child Sethe carried and took the life of being subsist? Who
would have thought the young girl who showed up standing in the rain could be an extension of the house better yet the lost child
Sethe bore. Thus this time the extension came in human form and every emotion
expressed by Sethe was watched admirably and at times intently by the one
called Beloved. These moments in time seemed so insignificant to Denver and Paul D
however captured Beloved. Her stories, her fondest memories innocent yet held
her attention significantly.
As Sethe shared her fondest memories
it was like seeing something through the eyes of a child. In a child’s eyes
whose mother is their idol and ideal person, so her devotion grew deeper and
deeper with each waking day. From the short walks from the bus to 124th each
story Sethe shared gave Beloved joy, a sort of fulfillment to know she was with
Sethe. Her reason for finding her was to be close to her. Thus the bond they
had before was cut short due to her untimely death Beloved wanted to be loved
once more. She knew that ma’am was Sethe. The relationship between Sethe grew
however being one person her attention was constantly being given away and her
affection was being divided. Denver appetite for
loneliness was hard to bare. Paul D couldn’t get pass the fact that Beloved was
so clean. And beloved the lost one that longed for the affection and could wait
up to know all of Sethe’s adventures and or running that made her scared to go
back from wherever it was she was that caused her sufferings and wounds.
Beloved was not
just seven letters engraved on the headstone she was as real as the day she
stood on Bluestone Road . It states that
“Everybody knew what she was called, but nobody anywhere knew her name. Disremembered
and unaccounted for" (274). But this we know not to be true, she has been
claimed by Sethe Implying that Beloved
was here and that although she was claimed, she had no real name, no one to
speak for her it was as though she came from nowhere, no place to call home,
but a name Beloved. When asked by Denver "Why you
call yourself Beloved?" Beloved closed her eyes. “In the dark my name is
Beloved"(75)... As Denver quizzically
questions Beloved on her comings she asks Beloved “What did you come back
for?" Beloved smiled. To see her face." A
mother’s love is unconditional and is also reciprocal from mother to child. Her
need to see Sethe has turned into infatuation with hearing her speak about the
missing links where time got away from them. Her love is what seemed like anger
was derived from the slaying that left her in the dark for years. Furthermore she had emerged only to leave in
the same fashion she came. With no one knowing where she went and how she came.
Her presence was not missed, only to those who could remember her and even
their recollection of her was vague.
“They forgot her like a bad dream… because remembering her seemed
unwise”. Everyone tries to forget her. Though it is very hard because her
presence seemed so ethereal that when gone those who had fallen in love with
her, who spoke to her had missed what they never knew they had ever lost
before. Thus “it was not a story to pass on” is a definitively correct
whom can pass on would not be telling the whole truth because it was not their
truth to tell.
Some times our reality is distorted by
our subconscious thoughts. And we chose to not remember or reflect but as
explained in the back of 124 her
footprints come and go, come and go”… Beloved has never gone she may have been
forgotten and lost but her footprints are imprinted in the hearts, and the
lives she touched. Though Beloved’s life was short lived it was easier to disremember her mirror what
we reflect in life. At times it is those
unaccounted for that have humans believe we must have more we are more even
when death is here we essentially can and are here. The only thing that keeps
them un remembered unaccounted for and no named is the un acknowledged of the
life and or soul that is bound here and stuck in the living.
